New publications on the potential of thinning to increase drought tolerance in trees

Results of our meta-analysis indicate that thinning, in particular heavy thinning, is a suitable approach to improve the growth response of remaining trees to drought in both conifers and broadleaves across a wide geographical range.

For Scots pine growing in Central Europe, only thinning regimes, with relatively heavy and frequent thinning interventions help to increase the drought tolerance of future crop trees.
