Waldwirtschaft und ländliche Entwicklung

Leitung:   Prof. Dr. Benno Pokorny

The emphasis of the research carried out by the Chair of Forestry and Rural Development pertains to the question if and in what way natural resources in tropical and subtropical regions could be effectively used for sustainable development for the benefit of local people. Research explores actor-specific strategies for natural resource management in different development contexts to understand related decision making processes. This includes an assessment of the conditions and measures to influence these processes, in particular those oriented to poverty alleviation and forest conservation, as well as the reflection on theoretical models to explain empirical observations, preferably gathered in transdisciplinary comparative research approaches. A special focus is on the development of theoretical models for the strengthening and promotion of endogenous development potentials.
