IUFRO 2024
IUFRO 2024
Our team from the Chair of Silviculture at Freiburg University participated at XXVI World Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations IUFRO, held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 23-29 June 2024.
All of us contributed through oral presentations, posters or the moderation of sessions.
We are very proud to announce that four of our researchers received Best Poster Awards! Awards were given for the public dissemination of high-quality research and as recognition of distinguished poster presentations. The 2024 winners were selected during the Congress per IUFRO Division, Task Force and Congress Theme; see IUFRO: IUFRO News, Volume 53, Double Issue 6/7 / News Online / IUFRO News.
Mareike Mohr received the award for her poster The Influence of Retention Forestry on Restoration Success Following Dieback of Norway Spruce Stands by Devision 1
Florian Schnabel received the award for his poster Tree diversity increases forest temperature buffering by Devision 4 (see preprint)
Andreea Spinu received the award for her poster Employing a diversified approach for habitat tree selection in temperate forests of Europe by Devision 4. More here.
Julius Willig received the award for his poster No increased drought-related mortality after thinning: Meta-analysis on thinning experiments by the TF Monitoring Global Tree Mortality Patterns and Trends
Some of us also featured in a new film "Flicker" on adaptation challenges in Swedish Forestry by journalist Sverker Johansson, which premiered at the conference; see trailer here.
It was a great opportunity to present our work from many different projects, to receive feedback, to meet & discuss with colleagues and to renew and expand our networks.
A big Thank You to the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation for its generous financial support that enabled our conference participation and made this a rewarding and memorable week!
